Personalized Wedding Gift

Updated: Feb 15, 2021

It's wedding season y’all!

I love creating fun and easy personalized gifts for brides and grooms. So when contacted by one of my sorority sisters to create a cord of three strands I decided to take it a bit further by personalizing and framing it to be used for home decor after the ceremony.

The Unity Braids ceremony, also known as The cord of three strands or The Marriage Braid, is often incorporated into intimate Christian wedding ceremonies. The three strands represent the love and commitment between one man, one woman, and God. Many people consider a Unity Braids ceremony as a beautiful alternative to a unity candle or unity sand ceremony.

Come along as I show you how I created this fun personalized wedding gift that the couple can display around their home for years to come. You can also watch this on YouTube, or scroll down below for the step by step written instructions.

To Start, gather all the supplies needed:

♥ (3) Rayon Cords 3/8" thick (Color of your Choice)

♥ (1) 12 x 36” Wood Shelf

♥ (1) 96 in. Shoe Base Moulding

♥ White Satin Ribbon

♥ Rubber Band

♥ Silver Drawer Pull

♥ Tape Measure

Silhouette Cameo and Vinyl

♥ Pearl String (Optional)

Using measuring tape and a miter box measure and cut the shoe base molding at a 45° angle to frame the wood board.

Glue the trim/molding to the wood board and place a stack of books or anything heavy on top of the board while glue dries. Tip: adding some hot glue to the edges insures that your molding will stay in place while E6000 Glue dries.

While glue is drying create your custom design I use Adobe Illustrator, but you can use any design software (Photoshop, Picmonkey, Pixelmator, etc.)

After the design is created it is time to get everything cut out. Using the Silhouette Cameo and transfer vinyl I then peel away the excess vinyl and prepare it for install.

Once your images are designed and cut out, the wood board should be dry. Measure where you want your images placed and smooth vinyl transfer making sure it adheres to the wood board before peeling.

Now you are ready for the finishing touches. Drill a hole in the wooden board then add the knob and attach the (3) Cords. Optional: Add ribbon to top of cords and glue pearl string to framed edges.

Tada You’re Done!
